Avenue Information
Playa del Carmen's pedestrian
avenue (Quinta Avenida) is littered with sidewalk cafes, each with its own
unique atmosphere and charm. In the evening you can sip tropical cocktails at a
waterfront bar, dance the night away to live music , or join an impromptu beach
party bonfire. Shoppers looking for that special gift will find it here;
handicrafts from over the country are available in Playa.
It is the main street where the
visitors gather, in a typical Mexican atmosphere. During a walk down this
pedestrian street, where automobiles are not permitted, you will find a variety
of restaurants with all kinds of menus national and international, to satisfy
any palate; divers stores to make you purchases and a great variety of services
offered to the visitors.
Along fifth Avenue, there are also
musical groups, contributing to the atmosphere, among them, the "Mexican
Mariachi", with their unique melodies, duets, trios and quartets with their
romantic "boleros", the "Marimba" band with it contagious
rhythm and the "Huapanguero" from Veracruz with the harp to delight us
with its delicate notes.
You can meet extravagant
characters, as in the case of the painter who uses a spray technique to create
paintings of impressive landscapes. The passers by can obtain the one they like
for a moderate price.
On some corner, we are surprised by
folklore, Mexico is rich in folklore; in Playa del Carmen, it is shown in
different ways and styles of typical dances and native Indian ballets with such
spectacular acts as the "Voladores de Papantla" ( the Papantla flyers
).
So, when you come to Playa del
Carmen, don't miss a visit to Fifth Avenue, because if you haven't been on this
unusual street, with its atmosphere of joy, security and harmony, maybe then,
you haven't seen Playa del Carmen.
